Being a Mormon Blogger is Cool

In my two years of blogging I've written about some fairly controversial things like abortion, Iraq, and global warming. But by far the reason most people wind up here is because I'm a Mormon. Even old posts will attract new visitors.

For instance, I just got a comment on a post from last September,
you mormon folks sure are funny! by the way, you're missing out... coffee is soooo good...
I still get hits to my post on Senator Larry Craig, all brought here by Google searches of "Larry Craig Mormon", "Is Larry Craig Mormon", "Sen Craig Mormon" or some other derivation. (He's not.)

I get hits for people googling "nancy pelosi mormon" and "rosi o'donnell mormon" too.(Not that I'm aware of.)

But by far the biggest post I've written to date has been the American Idolist David Archuleta singing Imagine. I've had literally thousands of visits to that post, mostly from people wondering if he's Mormon. (He's from Utah, so that's probably why people are wondering. The answer: I don't know. I did get this comment to the post though, "this kid is mormon he must hate black people". Nice.)

So, here's a big welcome to all you Mormon googlers. Enjoy your visit.

This is really funny. That is why I mostly avoid a lot of other topics that concern me. I wish I had more hits, but I like that I mostly get people concerned with education topics.

Maybe I'll just throw Archuleta into the tags of my posts for the next few weeks.

Another fun part of being Mormon on the internet is coming across comments like the following:

"It is among the tenets of Mormonism that Jesus Christ is not the literal Son of God. They see Jesus as merely a human being. Hence they do not qualify as a “Christian” religion. If you deny the divinity of Jesus you are not a Christian. So for Beck to make a joke of Jesus Christ is explained by the tenets that he ascribes to. That it is disrespectful of true Christian believers is without question. But since he prescribes to a false religion one can expect no less. Thank our lucky stars that Romney is out of the race, otherwise we be dealing with more of this."

I found this while doing research at ThinkProgress.org for my Glenn Beck post. It's something that happens quite often; on articles and posts about Mitt Romney or Harry Reid or Mike Huckabee (He's not Mormon, but he sure seems to like to talk about them) there are very often people who chime in with errors and half truths about what Mormons believe. I generally like to correct these errors and misstatements, as I did with this one at Think Progress.

FYI, go to jesuschrist.lds.org for LDS doctrine on Jesus Christ, including the fact that we do believe that Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God.

Yeah, it's pretty cool to get a lot of hits, but getting random "you should drink coffee" comments from anonymous posters is fun for about three minutes.

I'd much rather have good topical discussions with folks.

Coffee you can do with out, but the green tea, eh some things you get to give up.

But the coolest thing about being Mormon and being a blogger are the secert meetings we get to attend where we talk about secertly about tainting true christian religions.

I'm with Minnick...how in the crap do you know how people find you? I know that my blog gets googled because of my trafficker...but I don't know what they are searching for when they find me. Fill me in!

As far as being Mormon goes....we're all a bunch of crazies!!! Heaven forbid! We don't drink coffee! I don't know how we've handled the strain...but somehow we've persevered. I thank that Human Being....Jesus.....for giving me strength to abstain from that hot beverage. :0)

Fellas, I had no idea when I picked the name for this little blog that it would lead to these searches. I had no idea that there were even these people doing these searches. Ironically, none of the actual religious things I've written have gotten any hits.

Doug and Ashlee, go to Google Analytics and you can sign up to track that sort of thing. There are other analytic tools out there, but that's the one I use. It's kinda fun to see how people get here.

Oh, and I really like hot beverages. But I've never done the coffee thing. I learned about Postum in Uruguay, and that's pretty good. I like a good hot chocolate too. But lately I've been back on a mate kick. Those Uruguayans have got it goin on. RFB, you ought to try it.

Cameron, David is LDS. And the prejudice and ignorance toward Mormons in the world today is really amazing. A spotlight was shown on a prominent Mormon (Mitt Romney) and the antis came out in full force. You keep blogging away, about anything you want. I, personally, have taken to moderating all the comments that come into my blog, any that are confrontational or anti get deleted right away. I take only sincere questions, thoughts and comments. No anti-Mormon nonsense. I don't have the time to deal with them. I won't change their mind and the CERTAINLY will not change mine. So why bother!

Other great sites for info:

All great sites.

I wonder if it's against the church for these jerks at electedhotties.blogspot.com to try and get people to rank elected officials' hotness.

It seems like that's committing adultery in their hearts and should be banned.

I am very concerned about the mormon church and their treatment of non-momorns in utah. I mean I have heard dozens of horror stories of non-mormons being cheated, lied to an falsly imprisoned (on trumped up charges)simply for not being a mormon. I mean the fact is mormonism is a cult and there needs to be laws passed to protect non-mormons in utah. I hate mormons who try to force themselves on us. I wish to God that jospeh smith had never been born or at least had castrated himself. Anyone who think that God is on their side is dangerous as hell.

my ex-"boyfriend" was/is Mormon..to make a really long story short, his parents eventually picked up on the fact that we liked each other and.. me not being Mormon(heaven forbid!) they basically did everything in their power to keep us from seeing each other(going as far to ground him for the littlest things just so he couldn't e-mail or talk to me. I mean holy cow, I may not be Mormon but I have very high standards and have never done anything bad... I'm a very shy person and am absolutely sure that I never did a single thing to make them not like me...it's just amazing how they judge behind your back and still think they can portray a plastic telle tubby world of family hapiness... it hurt for a long time the way they treated me but now I could care less... I see right through this illusion.
